Thinking about getting a paternity test done? And you want to know how long the process will take. Well, unfortunately, this answer is not a straightforward answer because paternity test turnaround times can vary from lab to lab. For example, some labs may have an average turnaround time of 2-3 business days. While most labs turnaround time can range from 5-12 business days.
It is always important to make sure that you ask this question about the turnaround time early in your conversation with your DNA Testing coordinator. Because most people want their results quickly. IDTO provides results in 2-3 business days from the date our lab receives your samples. It is important to note, depending on your family's situation. IDTO can provide expedited next day DNA Testing results which faster than our average turnaround time.
Please make sure you explain what your exact scenario is so that our DNA Testing coordinator can give you the all of the best options at your disposal. This way you can make the best-educated decision for your situation.
What Paternity Testing Options Do I Have?
The three types of paternity tests that are commonly requested.
1. Legal Paternity testing which entails alleged father and child/ren performing a DNA Test that will be handled as an unbroken chain of custody. The result can be used for the following scenarios. Birth Certificate name changes, Child Support Court Cases and Estate Battles to name few.
2. The second most common type of paternity test requested is a Peace of Mind Paternity Test otherwise known as a Non-legal Paternity Test.
This test is the same as the Legal Paternity Test with one big exception. This type of test can only be used for informational purposes only. That means the results can not be used for any legal reasons. A Peace Of Mind Paternity Test can be performed at home by yourself without a DNA Collector present or at one of our locations.
The only possible downside to this type of test is, if you collect your own sample sometimes people do not collect the sample effectively and they end up having to perform the test again.
If this has happened to you in the past, you may want to consider having a professional DNA Collector handle your sample collection. Besides, IDTO will be held accountable if the sample was not collected effectively and if we have to collect a second time. It will be done at no cost to you.
This option is the cheapest and the most cost effective Paternity Test. Please make sure you discuss your scenario to our DNA Coordinator so you will be given the advice to see if a Peace Of Mind Paternity Test will be right for you.
3. Finally, this type of Paternity Test falls under the legal category. Which is DNA Testing for immigration purposes? The reason we opted not place this under the Legal Paternity Test category although it is a Legal Test because immigration DNA Testing requires more information for IDTO to start the process and depending on your situation. Turnaround times can take months instead of days.
If I take DNA Test through the courts, will I receive my results fast?
No. From our dealings with various court houses within the tri-state area. We have been told that DNA Tests through the courts can take about a month to be completed.
When you perform your test privately IDTO you can expect your results in 2-3 business days forms the date of our lab's receipt.
