Immigration DNA testing for Mexicans may be suggested when a petitioner submits a family-based U.S. immigrant visa petition, passport application, Immediate Relative (IR-2) petition, Family Preference (F-4) petition, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) application and the evidence provided is deemed insufficient to establish the claimed biological relationship.
Please keep in mind that immigration DNA testing should only be initiated after receiving an official request or written correspondence from USCIS or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, as DNA tests performed independently prior to an official request will generally not be accepted for immigration purposes regardless of the laboratory used.
IDTO DNA is a U.S.-based immigration DNA testing company that assists U.S.-based petitioners and beneficiaries seeking to initiate the immigration DNA testing process. Our goal is to help families remain compliant with USCIS and the U.S. Embassy or Consulate evidence submission guidelines.
All DNA testing services we provide are performed by our partner AABB-accredited laboratory. This accreditation helps ensure that your testing process follows strict chain-of-custody procedures, including DNA sample collection coordination through the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, and that your results are accepted by immigration-related agencies.
How to Get Started
Voluntary immigration DNA testing can be a useful tool to help petitioners prove a claimed biological relationship when little or no credible evidence is available during the immigrant visa (IV), passport, or CRBA process. Below is a brief overview of how to begin the DNA testing process.
Required Documentation
The petitioner or beneficiary should first receive a Request for Evidence I-130 (RFE) from USCIS or written correspondence from the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate suggesting or requesting DNA testing. This step is important because immigration agencies generally require the testing process to follow a specific chain-of-custody procedure.

Labโs Case Initiation Process
After you submit the required information and documentation, our partner AABB-accredited laboratory will begin the case initiation process. Once the case is approved for testing, the U.S.-based petitionerโs DNA sample collection appointment will be scheduled at a facility in or near your city.
Embassy Appointment Coordination
After the petitionerโs DNA samples are collected, the laboratory will ship the DNA kit and collection instructions directly to the U.S. Embassy or Consulates. The embassy, not the laboratory is responsible for coordinating the beneficiaryโs DNA sample collection appointment abroad.
Laboratory Analysis
Once all DNA samples arrive at the laboratory, the DNA analysis will begin. Upon completion of the testing process, the laboratory will send a copy of the DNA results directly to USCIS or the U.S. Embassy, depending on your case requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the Mexican DNA testing process take?
The turnaround time for DNA test results is approximately three business days once all DNA samples arrive at the laboratory for analysis.
Please keep in mind that coordinating the beneficiaryโs DNA sample collection appointment through the U.S. embassy or consulate in our experience has an average turnaround time 8 weeks to several months, depending on the embassyโs workload.
How will my DNA samples be collected?
Buccal swabs are the most commonly used method of DNA specimen collection. During the collection process, sterile cotton swabs are placed inside the mouth and rubbed against the inner cheek for approximately 30 seconds to collect epithelial cells for DNA analysis.
Blood sample collections are also available; however, they are considered a more invasive collection method and provide the same level of DNA testing accuracy as standard cheek swab collections.

Why DNA Testing Is Suggested for Mexican Immigration Cases?
DNA testing may be suggested when the documents submitted with a visa application are insufficient or missing to establish the claimed biological relationship. This can occur due to inconsistencies in birth registration records or discrepancies between the documents submitted with the immigration petition.
In these situations, immigration DNA testing is considered one of the most reliable forms of secondary evidence available to help establish the claimed biological relationship and assist in moving the case forward.
Please note that DNA testing does not guarantee visa or CRBA issuance. Final decisions are made solely by the requesting immigration agency based on the totality of the evidence submitted.
How accurate are my DNA test results?
All DNA samples are collected and analyzed by our partner AABB-accredited laboratory in accordance with strict industry guidelines and chain-of-custody protocols.
Immigration DNA test results showing a probability of paternity or maternity of 99.99% or higher are considered highly accurate. Sibling DNA test results showing a 90% or greater probability of relatedness are also commonly accepted as supporting evidence to help establish a claimed biological relationship.
These DNA test results are frequently used in connection with USCIS immigration cases, U.S. embassy and consular processing, and Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) applications.
Please keep in mind that the accuracy of a test result in part is due to proper establishment of your chain-of-custody. Therefore choosing a company like IDTO and its partner lab will help to ensure your family is compliant and informed.
Will my DNA Results Be Kept Private?
Yes. All DNA test results are kept confidential and will only be released to the requesting immigration agency and the individuals authorized as part of the DNA testing process.
In addition, all DNA samples are securely maintained by the laboratory for up to 90 days. After that retention period expires, all samples are destroyed in accordance with laboratory procedures.
