What is a Y Chromosome DNA test?
A Y chromosome DNA test, also known as Y-DNA test, is a type of genetic test that is used to analyze the Y chromosome, which is passed from father to son. Only biological males (XY) have a Y chromosome, so this test only can be performed with biological males.
Y DNA Testing is an effective alternative for paternity testing when the alleged father is unavailable to participate in the testing process. It should be noted, this testing option can only be performed with males. The lab will analyze DNA genetic markers for both males to determine if there a biological relationship.
Legal Y DNA Test
Y STR DNA testing is a genetic test between two males that determine if there is paternal biological relationship by analyzing the Y chromosome of both males. The results for this testing option can be for any legal purpose.
Please note: All legal DNA testing services we offer are tested and analyzed by our partner AABB accredited testing laboratory. Testing performed by an AABB accredited lab is a requirement for all legal chain of custody DNA tests.

What method will be used to collect DNA samples?
All DNA samples are collected by cheek swabs. Each swab will be placed inside of the mouth and brushed against the left and right cheeks for minimum of 30 seconds.
Blood sample collections are a viable DNA sample collection option that has a the same accuracy as cheek swabs samples.

DNA Testing requirements:
Performing a legal paternity test requires the following.
- Must present a valid state-issued ID
- Children under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian present to give consent.
- All parties involved in the paternity test must present to give consent.
- A chain of custody has to be established.
- DNA samples will be processed and analyzed by our partner AABB accredited laboratory.

At-Home Y STR DNA Test
An At-Home Y DNA test is a peace of mind home DNA test kit that can be performed at home. This testing option is for peace of mind purposes only between the mother and child and cannot be used in court or for any legal reason.
Informational Test
An Informational DNA test is similar to an At-Home DNA Test in that the results cannot be used in court or for any legal reason. The main difference is an informational test DNA samples are conducted by a DNA sample collector from our network.
New York Residents
Please note: Home DNA testing option for New York State residents is not available. According to NYSDOH guidelines residents of NY must acquire one of the following documents to perform DNA test to be compliant with the state’s guidelines.
1. A court order from a judge
2. A prescription referral from a NYS licensed doctor.
3. A letter from a NYS licensed Family Law Attorney.

Y-DNA Results Turnaround Time
The turnaround for your DNA results to be completed is 2 to 3 business days from the date the laboratory receives all genetic samples.
Upon the completion of your results, a copy will mailed to your home and another copy will be emailed you.
